His Royal Highness William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV and Queen Jovia Mutesi have married in Bugembe Busoga.

Wise men come from the east – Busoga Kingdom:
The Busoga Kingdom is one of several kingdoms in the eastern part of Uganda. The swampy Lake Kyoga borders Busoga to the north, the Victoria Nile to the west, Lake Victoria to the south, and the Mpologoma River to the east. On Lake Victoria, it has several islands, notably Buvuma Island. The kingdom of the eleven Basoga/Soga (plural: Musoga) principalities is known as Busoga, or Land of the Soga.
Busoga Kingdom is divided into seven politically distinct districts: Jinja, Kamuli, Iganga, Bugiri, Mayuge, and the newly established districts of Kaliro and Busiki. Busoga Kingdom was established as a cultural institution.
Busoga lacked a coherent leadership until the British arrived in Uganda. Following Uganda’s accession to the British protectorate, efforts were undertaken to construct a central government modeled after Buganda, a functioning monarchy. The Kabaka, who governed Buganda, was a descendant of rulers. Some of Busoga’s chiefs were chosen solely by the Kabaka, yet it is thought that in some cases they were descended from preferred Baganda chiefs who were awarded the ability to reign over land in Busoga.
Others were simply the property of Busoga’s wealthy landowner families, who had established themselves as the ultimate rulers over wide swaths of country. Each of these leaders was a Lukiiko member.
Meanwhile, the white colonial overlords were preparing Chief Yosia Nadiope, the Gabula of Bugabula, to become the first resident ruler of the newly formed Busoga federation. In 1906, Nadiope was among the first Basoga pupils to enroll in Kings College Budo. When Nadiope died of malaria in 1913, Busoga was thrown into disarray.
Chief Ezekeriel Tenywa Wako, the Zibondo of Bulamogi, finished his education at Kings College Budo the next year, 1914. Zibondo of Bulamogi was a strong contender for the top job because he was a British-backed prince with a solid educational background. The hereditary saza chiefs of Busoga took the choice to select Ezekerial Tenywa Wako as the head of state at the Lukiiko.
In 1918-19, the Isebantu Kyabazinga title was formed, and one of the chiefs, Wako, ascended to the throne. In exchange for renouncing his traditional chiefdom of Bulamogi, he was paid 550 pounds and allowed to collect taxes in Butembe County. Ezekiel Tenywa Wako, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, was elected to the Uganda Kings Council in 1925. The Uganda Kings Council was comprised of the Kyabazinga of Busoga, the Kabaka of Buganda, the Omukama of Bunyoro, and the Omukama of Toro.
Inhebantu, the wife of Isebantu, was first referred to as “Inhebantu” in 1957. This marked Busoga’s gradual unification and the rise of Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga. The Kyabazinga was deposed when the monarchy was abolished in 1966. Jinja faced social and economic hardships following Idi Amin’s deportation of Asians from Uganda in 1972. Yoweri Museveni’s administration has worked to repatriate Asian Ugandans. Though useful, this has not restored Jinja’s former attractiveness. There are still indications of Asian influence, particularly in street names and architectural architecture.

The previous Kyabazinga of Busoga, Sir William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Nadiope, lived here and died in 1976. It also has a shrine. It serves as a substitute for the more well-known and powerful Murchison Falls and Bujagali Falls, which are now underwater as a result of dam construction
